Performed by the Boulton family in their living room locally
Joseph Haydn’s original orchestral work with this title was written in 1786 for performance on Good Friday and was subsequently arranged for string quartet.
It consists of a series of profound musical meditations on the words spoken by Jesus. There are nine movements in total – an introduction followed by seven slow ‘sonatas’ and a dramatic closing ‘Earthquake’ Presto.
During these unusual times when many people are confined to their own homes the Boulton family share their love of ‘chamber’ music in its original meaning - domestic music making.
The video will be available on Good Friday until the end of the Easter weekend.
