Penzance's excellent, ancient Cornish "Golowan" midsummer
festival celebrated on the feast of St
John the Baptist. Golowan comes from two elements: Goel +
Yowann which translates as 'holiday / feast of St John'. Revived
in the early 1990's it is now a major community arts event &
now extends to over a week of events. Don't miss the 20th "Mazey
Day" on Saturday, June 26th 2010 with fireworks late on
the previous evening and the 'Quay Fair' on Sunday, June 27th. Hope
to see you there. Check the linked site for all 2009 dates | Golowan

"Proper Cornish Childhood" a new book from Michael Darracott The
book is about growing up in sixties Cornwall. As a ten year old boy he
watched the Torrey canyon oil tanker being blown up by the RAF in 1967 and
tells of the devastation the oil caused to the Cornish beaches. It also
tells of growing up near Newlyn, and going to see the Christmas
Lights in Mousehole every year, and a lot more.
