SWINE
FLU. Last week the World Health Organisation
declared the outbreak of this illness now a pandemic. This
does not mean the illness is any more dangerous than before, simply that
it is now spreading from person to person at a more virulent rate. We are
told that it spreads both as an airborne agent, through sneezing, and also
through physical contact from person to person, especially carried on our
hands. The Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales agreed that when the
WHO raised the outbreak to level 6 the following would now apply:
# Holy Communion: to be administered from the ciborium only and
not from the chalice.
# Holy Communion is to be received only in the hand and not on the tongue.
This will remain in place until the
end of the pandemic.
Please remain reassured that, as Catholics, we have always
believed that the entire Christ is given to us under either species- so
you do not lose any of the spiritual graces by not receiving from the
chalice.
Extra Ordinary ministers for ciborium only, please wash
your hands in sacristy during Agnus Dei (Lamb of God) before coming on to
the altar. Cardinal Rivera - prayer

down well. Any old paperbacks that you think they might like to read ( no
Mills & Boon!) Sweets esp individually wrapped like boiled ones.
Packets under 2kg are posted free from any UK post office. If you can
help, post to: Rev’d Peter Scott, Chaplain Cdo Log Regt Royal Marines

PRAYER FOR THE SEVEN GIFTS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
O Lord Jesus Christ Who, before ascending into
heaven did promise to send the Holy Spirit to finish Your work in the
souls of Your Apostles and Disciples, deign to grant the same Holy Spirit
to me that He may perfect in my soul, the work of Your grace and Your
love. Grant me the Spirit of Wisdom that I may despise the perishable
things of this world and aspire only after the things that are eternal,
the Spirit of Understanding to enlighten my mind with the light of Your
divine truth, the Spirit of Counsel that I may ever choose the surest way
of pleasing God and gaining heaven, the Spirit of Fortitude that I may
bear my cross with You and that I may overcome with courage all the
obstacles that oppose my salvation, the Spirit of Knowledge that I may
know God and know myself and grow perfect in the science of the Saints,
the Spirit of Piety that I may find the service of God sweet and amiable,
and the Spirit of Fear that I may be filled with a loving reverence
towards God and may dread in any way to displease Him. Mark me, dear Lord
with the sign of Your true disciples, and animate me in all things with
Your Spirit. Amen.

A new initiative is being launched to encourage parishes
to reach out to non church-going (lapsed) Catholics. Called "Where
are they now?", the project aims to equip Catholics to
extend an invitation to those who, for many different reasons, have
stopped attending Church. It is sponsored by the Catholic Agency to
Support Evangelisation (CASE) which has sent resource packs to every
parish and religious house in the Diocese and across England and Wales.
The hope is that it will complement the outreach ministries already
started in the diocese. more - Diocesan website

A Prayer to Padre Pio - (more)
Beloved Padre Pio, today I come to add my prayer to the thousands of
prayers offered to you every day by those who love and venerate you. They
ask for cures and healings, earthly and spiritual blessings, and peace for
body and mind. And because of your friendship with the Lord, he heals
those you ask to be healed, and forgives those you forgive.
Through your visible wounds of the Cross, which you bore for 50 years, you
were chosen in our time to glorify the crucified Jesus. Because the Cross
has been replaced by other symbols, please help us to bring it back in our
midst, for we acknowledge it is the only true sign of salvation.
As we lovingly recall the wounds that pierced your hands, feet and side,
we not only remember the blood you shed in pain, but your smile, and the
invisible halo of sweet smelling flowers that surrounded your presence,
the perfume of sanctity.
Padre Pio, may the healings of the sick become the testimony that the Lord
has invited you to join the holy company of Saints. In your kindness,
please help me with my own special request: (mention here your petition,
and make the sign of the Cross).
Bless me and my loved ones. In the name of the Father, the Son and the
Holy Spirit. Amen.."

Daily Novena Prayer to St Joseph. Feast day 19th March:- now online
Almighty God, you have chosen Saint Joseph to be the mainstay of Jesus
and Mary, the wise and faithful servant in whom they could trust. We
pray that he may truly be the guardian of your Church; that he
may inspire with confidence those who are devoted to him; that he may
give security to those who work in the vineyard of Your Son; and
finally, that he may be a source of strength to us, who wish, like
him, to dedicate ourselves to Christ's service, now and in times to
come. Amen.

Please continue to pray for an end to all
wars, violence, injustice and famine
Strong and merciful God,
You crush wars and overthrow the proud;
banish violence from the Middle East
and wipe away the tears of those who suffer.
May all men and women, made in Your image and likeness,
find in Your love and mercy, a pattern for their lives.
We ask this through Our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God for ever and ever, Amen
