some familiar music during the Covid-19 singing restrictions

For the sudden church closures of first lockdown in 2020, David provided music from 2 days of the Triduum as an aid to prayer on Holy Thursday at the time of the Mass of the Lord’s Supper, and on Good Friday at 3pm, when we would normally gather for the Passion of Our Lord ~ for 2021, music as far back as 2000 is now added ~ Hearing familiar music from our choir and musicians in our church may be reassuring and helpful ~ from parish archives and only recorded informally at past Holy Week liturgies etc, kindly listen with not too critical an ear :-)

Haydn, 'The Seven Last Words of Our Saviour on the Cross'. Performed in our Penzance Church on Good Friday evening 2000 (an annual occasion then) by local musicians, leader Miles Baster (1935-2004) an informal recording made from audience (the seven last words spoken by Fr. Cormac Breathnach on the evening, are not included here) speaker icon listen to mp3 (51:37 mins) ~ Joseph Haydn’s original orchestral work with this title was written in 1786 for performance on Good Friday and was subsequently arranged for string quartet. It consists of a series of profound musical meditations on the words spoken by Jesus. There are nine movements in total – an introduction followed by seven slow ‘sonatas’ and a dramatic closing ‘Earthquake’ Presto. ~ Haydn - Wikipedia
