The Corrymeela Community is a residential centre on the Antrim coast of Northern Ireland founded in 1965 as a Christian centre for reconciliation in Ireland. Its logo describes it now as: 'Committed to reconciliation in Ireland and throughout the world'. Their experience has much to teach us about conflict resolution and living with difference. Justice, Peace & Reconciliation: Corrymeela Conference & Worship - Exeter 14/15 March 2009

"Peace is the gift of Christ, which he obtained for us with the sacrifice  of the Cross. To achieve it effectively it is necessary to climb with the  divine Teacher up to Calvary. And who can guide us better in this ascent than  Mary who, as she stood at the foot of the Cross, was given to us as our mother  through the faithful apostle, St John". - Pope John Paul II (Palm  Sunday, 2003)

When we have Justice and Peace, we will have "Law and Order" a popular political goal!

Scripture Reading for Monday of Holy Week 2009. Is 42:1-7
Here is my servant whom I uphold, my chosen one with whom I am pleased, Upon whom I have put my Spirit; he shall bring forth justice to the nations,
Not crying out, not shouting, not making his voice heard in the street. A bruised reed he shall not break, and a smouldering wick he shall not quench, Until he establishes justice on the earth; the coastlands will wait for his teaching.

Thus says God, the LORD, who created the heavens and stretched them out, who spreads out the earth with its crops, Who gives breath to its people
and spirit to those who walk on it: I, the LORD, have called you for the victory of justice, I have grasped you by the hand;
I formed you, and set you as a covenant of the people, a light for the nations, To open the eyes of the blind, to bring out prisoners from confinement,
and from the dungeon, those who live in darkness.

"No, no, we are not satisfied, and we will not be satisfied until justice rolls down like waters and righteousness like a mighty stream."
Martin Luther King Jr. (1929-1968, American Civil Rights leader, Nobel Prize winner, 1964)

a new parish group was proposed in 2005
to be guided by the existing Plymouth Diocese Justice and Peace Commission

A current, serious local concern is the poor treatment and conditions of many migrant field and other workers, by some gangmasters. A 2nd collection was taken to help a local ecumenical initiative with assisting some in our district.

This is what Yahweh asks of you, Only this; That you act justly, That you love tenderly, That you walk humbly with God. Micah 6:8

A Prayer for Peace
from
Pope John Paul II

To You, Creator of nature and humanity, of truth and beauty, I pray...

Hear my voice, for it is the voice of all the victims of all wars and violence among individuals and nations.

Hear my voice, for it is the voice of all children who suffer, when people put their faith in weapons of war.

Hear my voice, when I beg You to instill into the hearts of all human beings, the wisdom of peace, the strength of justice and the joy of fellowship.

Hear my voice, for I speak for the multitudes in every country and in every period of history, who do not want war and are ready to walk the road of peace.

Mother Teresa's prayer for peace

In 1981 Mother Teresa announced her Prayer for Peace asking that it be used around the world daily at noon local time. A chain of prayer would thus be set up, activated at each of the twenty-four hours of the day. Clearly those who could not use the prayer at noon might do so at any other time.

Lead me from Death to Life,
from Falsehood to Truth.

Lead me from Despair to Hope,
from Fear to Trust.

Lead me from Hate to Love,
from War to Peace.

Let Peace fill our Hearts,
our World, our Universe.

Peace  Peace  Peace

Please pray for the coming of God's kingdom of love, reconciliation, justice and peace into our divided world, as Jesus taught us. (Our Father.....)

"Peace is not the product of terror or fear. Peace is not the silence of cemeteries. Peace is not the silent result of violent repression. Peace is the generous, tranquil contribution of all to the good of all. Peace is dynamism. Peace is generosity. It is right and it is duty." Oscar Romero
